Gond Katira is derived from the sap of a thorny tree commonly found in the Middle East. It is also known as Tragacanth gum or shiraz gum or Gum Karaya. The scientific name of this plant is Astragalus gummifer. It is used in Ayurvedic medicines due to its medicinal and cosmetic properties to treat various disorders. It is also used as binder in medicinal products like tablets and is used to prepare thick pastes as it gives a creamy texture.
